Nextiva Online Fax Service Review

Nextiva has built a product in both the VoIP and faxing markets that translates into minimalist approach on the faxing side, but one that is built on a solid foundation.

The lowest cost brand name provider in the online faxing market, Nextiva provides good value for people looking for the minimum when it comes to faxing, and an upgrade path to a full business telephone suite for companies looking to grow.

Introduction

Nextiva Fax was founded in 2005 and is located in Scottsdale, AZ. It has been the recipient of a number of awards which have included the Product of the Year Award from Internet Technology magazine in 2008.

This online Fax service offers customizable, high quality faxing with a range of different packages and accompanying payment options tailored to meet different needs. You may also port your current fax numbers over to this service. The overall cost is relatively inexpensive. An example would be their basic annual service that costs $4.95 per month and provides a 500 page allowance per month (with a 3 cent per page additional charge).

Features

The service has a well-rounded set of features with only a few expected features missing. These include:

  • * Send and receive faxes by both email and fax machine – You can still keep your fax machine (and send paper faxes) through the use of a provided adaptor. The service will still store copies of your faxes online even when you send through your fax machine.
  • * You can send or receive faxes through Microsoft applications.
  • * You can send and receive faxes by cell phone. Mobile fax alerts are available.
  • * Avoid busy signals – the service will automatically continue sending your fax until the recipient’s machine is available.
  • * Faxes are stored by the service for future retrieval for up to 1 year.
  • * Encrypted security is provided.
  • * Faxes can be retrieved at remote sites by logging in to the server.
  • * Local numbers are available in 44 states and British Columbia and Ontario.
  • * Redundant network for stability and reliability.
  • * Up to five recipients may receive fax notifications. But only one user per account may send faxes.
  • * Preview and schedule faxes.
  • * Port a number ($5.95 additional charge).
  • * Mac-compatible.
  • * Technical support is U.S. – based.

Cons – The inability to add a digital signature and no vanity fax number availability. International faxing and toll-free fax numbers are also not available.

" I manage homes and apartment units throughout Virginia and got into using Nextiva because a company I acquired was using their phone service. Through the acquisition we continued to operate of their office as well as our own, essentially having two phone systems. One was with Verizon and the other was with Nextiva. After a year of paying the two phone bills and not able to transfer calls internally, I decided to run off of Nextiva and stop using Verizon. Let alone that Nextiva was nearly half the price of Verizon, the phone system has been better in every area. While I do appreciate everything the Verizon service did for us during the last 10 years, Nextiva has been much better. The only pain with Nextiva is that I have trouble updating the music-on-hold file - it requires a specific file type that I can't record our messaging in. And while Nextiva does convert the file for us and the support is always fast and helpful, I'd prefer to do this myself. Running off of the Nextiva system is something I'd tell other businesses to do as well. It's good. "
